PEI-Genesis Now Offers New Enhanced Plating Option with Improved Resistance to The Harshest Environments

Philadelphia, PA - (2/18/2016) PEI-Genesis, in partnership with Amphenol Industrial Products Group, is now offering a new plating option which is both RoHS and REACH compliant, and designed to be used in the harshest of environments. Amphenol Industrial has enhanced its standard shell plating from standard cadmium to gray zinc nickel (Gray ZnNi).

“Our long-standing relationship with Amphenol ensures a continuous stream of interconnect innovation,” said Russ Dorwart, PEI-Genesis President and COO. “That decades-long partnership allows us to offer unique technology to our customers, and in this case, a technology that delivers better performance with environmental advantages.”

The new plating offers high corrosion resistance and no significant galvanic reaction when mated with leading standard market plating options. It is also non-magnetic with an operating temperature range of -65°C to -200°C and the light gun metal gray plating is cadmium-free.

According to Mark Cunningham, Amphenol Industrial General Manager, “Standard cadmium plating can only sustain 96 hours of salt spray and is not RoHS-compliant. Electroless nickel and zinc cobalt can only reach 48 and 96 hours, but our new Gray ZnNi is rated for 500 hours of salt spray in addition to being RoHS-compliant.”

Initially designed for use in marine applications, the new plating can now be used in military and industrial applications or wherever RoHS and REACH compliant platings are required.

The new plating is currently in stock and ready to ship globally on the following product lines: AC Threaded, PT and GT.
