PEI-Genesis Partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters

Bbbs PEI-Genesis, Inc., the world’s fastest assembler of precision connectors and power supplies, announced today a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania (BBBS SEPA) to host a Beyond School Walls workplace mentoring program. In this program, students from a Northeast Philadelphia elementary school (to be determined) will be matched to PEI-Genesis employee volunteers in one-to-one mentoring relationships during the 2011-2012 school year. “We are fortunate to be thriving, and consistently looking for ways to share our talents and give back to the community,” stated Steven Fisher, CEO, PEI-Genesis “In keeping with our values and our desire to continually grow and improve, we have asked our employees to consider volunteering to become Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors.

It is our privilege to support Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania and we look forward to the many invaluable learning experiences and memories that this program will provide to all who participate – the kids and our employees” Beyond School Walls is a unique version of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ blue-ribbon one-to-one youth mentoring program where companies throughout southeastern PA give back to the community by hosting children from a nearby school at their corporate office. The children meet in the workplace with an employee volunteer mentor two-four times per month and the corporation financially supports the mentoring relationship. “We are thrilled PEI-Genesis, Inc. will host a Beyond School Walls program,” stated BBBS SEPA CEO Marlene L. Olshan. “This program helps youth facing adversity connect the dots between academic success and real-world success and as a result, their behaviors and attitudes begin to change and their attendance and grades improve” During the 2009-2010 school year, more than 500 students were mentored in 15 Beyond School Walls programs – across the program, mentored children decreased their unexcused absences and improved their academic attainment: 92% of children served had zero unexcused absences, 98% of children served progressed to the next grade and nearly 60% decreased their disciplinary infractions after being matched for two years.
